The Esso Club

If you don't already know it, you will soon. A Clemson tradition for the past 75 years, the Esso offers great bar food and cold beer. Check them out at http://theessoclub.com/Home.htm (warning: page has sound). The Esso Club opens at 11 for lunch and has an excellent "meat and 3". Get there early because it gets crowded quick! However, there is a special art form to parking at the Esso. You'll want to observe others before trying it yourself. So don't be the first in the lot at 11!

Mac's Drive-In

Another Clemson tradition. It's all about the burgers. The place is small, it's old, and you'll love it. Mac's doesn't have a website—they don't need one—but you can get directions here.

The Mellow Mushroom

Arguably the best pizza in South Carolina. Right across from the tennis courts, the Mellow Mushroom (aka The 'Shroom) bakes everything to order. Pizza, calzones, hoagies, a huge salad menu and various munchies are available at this outpost of the small Atlanta-based chain. Don't think you can get in and out and on your way with a pizza in 10 minutes, but take the extra time and you won't be sorry. For a sample of the atmosphere, check out their trippy website.
